Saint-Cloud, France, June 9, 2020 – Dassault Aviation fully supports the government’s recovery plan for the aviation industry announced today at the French Ministry of Economy and Finance.

This plan provides crucial assistance to the French subcontracting chain, which has been severely impacted by the Covid-19 crisis.

Uderzo’s family has auctioned off some of the designer’s comics boards for the benefit of caregivers.

Faithful to the memory of Albert Uderzo, who passed away on 24 March, his wife and daughter took part in the national tribute to French hospital nursing staff by offering five original boards at a charity auction organised by Artcurial in Paris on 26 May. “My husband was very moved by the appalling health crisis we are experiencing. A month after his death, my daughter Sylvie and I wanted to do what he would surely have done: support and thank in his memory the nursing staff, these new heroes of the French village! “, recalls Ada Uderzo.

It consisted of five comic book boards made by Albert Uderzo: three boards of Asterix, one board of Tanguy and Laverdure, and one board of Oumpah-Pah. That of Tanguy and Laverdure is a very rare Indian ink, pencil and blue pencil on paper, taken from the album « Escadrille des cigognes » published in 1964 and pre-published in 1962 in the newspaper « Pilote ».

The 390,000 euros collected will be entirely donated to the Fondation Hôpitaux de Paris – Hôpitaux de France which, through its Covid-19 emergency aid fund, supports hospitals, caregivers and patients.

Until July 14, 2020, the exhibition “Industry from the sky” (L’industrie vue du ciel) will be on display on the gates of the Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris (France).

This event for the general public, organised by L’Usine Nouvelle, allows to discover and support the industrial sector by presenting 80 large-format art photos relating to exceptional achievements and production sites seen from the sky. For the occasion, the best photographers and specialists in aerial photography took part…

In mid-April, Dassault Aviation delivered a third ATL2 maritime patrol aircraft (PATMAR) modernized to Standard 6 to the French Defense Procurement Agency (DGA).

This delivery was carried out as planned, despite the constraints related to the Covid-19 crisis, thanks to the professionalism and commitment of Dassault Aviation teams and its industrial and government partners.

The contract for the upgraded (standard 6) ATL2 combat system was awarded by the DGA on October 4, 2013. The program covers a fleet of 18 aircraft. Dassault Aviation is due to deliver seven renovated ATL2s over 2019-2023. In parallel, the SIAé aeronautical maintenance center will upgrade 11 aircraft.

Aerospace engineering higher education expert, ISAE-SUPAERO launches an edition of its free online course “How does a plane fly?” (“Comment vole un avion” in French) on April 30^th to get aircraft flying knowledge!

This course addresses the mechanics of flight and aerodynamics through videos, lectures, animations, virtual experiments using a flight simulator and real situations on board of an instrumented TB20 aircraft. Various aerodynamic terms are explained by Eric Poquillon, teacher in experimental flight dynamics.

This training lasts 4 weeks validated by quizzes and/or practical cases. The volume of work is around 3 hours per week (course and personal work included). A free certificate of “successful completion” will be delivered to validate the newly acquired knowledge. For those who want to go further, a paid certification can be delivered after examination.

Since the beginning of the confinement, the team in the Dassault Aviation canteen at Saint-Cloud has been reduced to 10% of the usual staff. It provides lunches for the employees present on the site and also prepares around 60 meals a day, including Saturday and Sunday, for the Foch hospital in Suresnes (France). Since mid-March, more than 2,000 complete, varied and balanced meals have thus been offered to doctors and nurses who fight covid-19 with admirable dedication.

These meals, designed to be easy to transport and reheat, complete the hospital’s catering offer to its nursing staff, who cannot always stop during normal working hours and take lunch breaks “when they can”.

This wonderful initiative was set up on the initiative of the catering team itself, which is keen to contribute to the fight against the pandemic with its everyday weapons: culinary talent, a sense of service, responsiveness and a modern facility under strict health control. An operation in keeping with the Dassault spirit and which is a credit to the entire company.

To help combat the Covid-19 epidemic, Dassault Aviation has begun the production of protective visors, using 3D printing.

Over 1,000 visors are produced each week, in strict compliance with health regulations.

Seven hundred of these visors have already been donated to various institutions (regional health agencies, hospitals, firefighters, the gendarmerie, local authorities, etc.).

Dassault Aviation is participating in the system set up by Aviation Sans Frontières (ASF) to help the medical sector in France and Europe in the fight against the Covid-19 epidemic.

ASF is an NGO founded in 1980 that mobilizes its expertise, its aircraft and the air network to deliver humanitarian aid and transport or accompany people around the world. Against Covid-19, ASF has set up a collaborative platform to carry out repatriations on demand and the transport of medical personnel or medical equipment.

The Mirage F1, the direct descendant of the Mirage III, but which stands out from the Mirage family with its swept wing, is the subject of two new publications.

Duke Hawkins dedicates the tenth volume of the collection “Aircraft in detail,” published by HMH Publications, to the Mirage F1. With great detail, he traces the interceptor’s career spanning four decades, from its entry into service in the French Air Force in 1973. It features 84 pages of detailed descriptions, accompanied by a collection of 250 photos.

With several books on the Mirage family already to his name, this time Salvador Mafé Huertas focuses on the Spanish export version of the Mirage F1. Released by Kagero Publishing, this monograph includes 180 archive photos, 10 profiles of the interceptor, as well as numerous drawings.

En cette période de crise du Covid-19, la ministre des Armées a tenu à se rendre auprès de ces organismes pour réaffirmer l’absolue nécessité de maintenir les activités industrielles, qu’elles soient étatiques ou privées, indispensables à nos forces armées pour mener leurs missions et activités les plus essentielles. Les opérations extérieures et intérieures, la dissuasion, la protection de nos approches maritimes et aériennes, notamment, sont au cœur des activités régaliennes de l’État, et le ministère des Armées ainsi que ses partenaires industriels ne peuvent y manquer.

Les armées françaises sont notamment engagées au Sahel et au Levant contre différents groupes armés terroristes : ce combat ne faiblit pas. First mission carried out on Sunday, April 5.

Saint-Cloud, France, April 5, 2020 – To deal with the health crisis linked to COVID-19, Dassault Aviation has made two Falcon business jets available to the French Defense Ministry as part of the Operation Resilience intended to supply logistics and medical support for civilian corona virus control activities.

The first mission, involving the two aircraft, took place on Sunday, April 5. It brought a team of 26 doctors and other medical personnel from Brest, Brittany back to Paris. The team had accompanied COVID-19 patients to Brest on a special medical train.

The two Dassault aircraft, a Falcon 8X and a Falcon 900, are equipped for 15 and 13 passengers, respectively. They are operated by Dassault Falcon Service (DFS), a subsidiary of Dassault Aviation specializing in maintenance and flight operations, based at Le Bourget airport. DFS also supplies the flight crews.

One of the fathers of motorized aviation is French! His name is Clément Ader and the musée des arts et métiers, in partnership with Google Arts & Culture, invites you to learn about his history through an online exhibition.

It is by imagining a vertical steam engine with a tubular boiler that his airplane “Éole” took off in 1890. Through his work on various aeroplanes, Clément Ader brought to light new techniques and innovative materials, revolutionary for the time.

But this genial character imagined many other things, often serious, sometimes eccentric inventions to discover in this exhibition: the removable railway, the electrophone, or even the theaterphone.

Throughout this virtual exhibition, numerous HD photos of objects and documents from the museum’s collections illustrate the atypical career of this inventor, a real jack-of-all-trades who tried to make a dream come true: to design a machine to make man fly through the air.

In order to help healthcare personnel to fight against Covid-19, Dassault Aviation has so far issued 130,000 protective masks to French regional health agencies.

The Company is currently continuing to supply several hundred thousand masks of various types to ensure the protection of its employees and to make donations to the regional health agencies on which our nine facilities in France depend.

First as a Mirage F1 fighter pilot, then flying in the slot position in 2014 and Athos leader in 2015, Romain Bethoux provides a poignant account of his career in the French Air Force in the book “Le Pari de l’impossible, de la Patrouille de France, une aventure humaine.”

A great artist has gone. Albert Uderzo leaves behind him an incomparable body of work with many successes to his credit, including the famous aeronautical comic strip “Les Aventures de Tanguy et Laverdure”.

These two characters were in fact created in 1959 (published in the Pilote newspaper) by Jean-Michel Charlier, scriptwriter, and Albert Uderzo, cartoonist. Since that day, they have thrilled all aeronautical enthusiasts with their incredible adventures and their very special characters: Tanguy is straight and courageous while Laverdure is eccentric and clumsy.

Aboard their Super Mystère B2 or Mirage III, the two fighter pilots and friends engage in many very dangerous missions throughout their thirty or so albums.

Since the start of the coronavirus crisis, the entire aerospace industry and the 400 GIFAS member companies have rallied to serve their employees, their customers and our country.

The industry, including the major groups, equipment manufacturers, SMEs and VSEs, is first and foremost making every effort to provide the best possible safety for its 195,000 employees, whose health is our top priority. We are optimizing workplace safety by following the recommendations and operating procedures laid down by the UIMM (Union of Metallurgical Industries and Trades) in consultation with employee representative organizations. Wherever possible, we have also asked our teams to telework.

With “Jules Védrines, 250.000 km en aéroplane*”, the author Thierry Matra has written a benchmark biography of one of the most prominent French aviators in the history of aeronautics.

A veritable reference volume, “Jules Védrines, 250.000 km en aéroplane*” faithfully recounts the full life of this man. He came from a modest background, started work in a factory and then became a mechanic, before obtaining his pilot’s license toward the end of 1910.

Over the course of these 574 pages, Thierry Matra examines the rise of this exceptional pilot with thorough detail and infectious enthusiasm. Between 1910 and 1914, Védrines won many races. Then he was called up to serve in the French Army during World War I, specializing in dangerous missions behind the enemy lines.

After the Great War, Jules Védrines wrote a final chapter in his legend. At the controls of a Caudron G III, he executed a successful precision landing on the roof of Galeries Lafayette, before disappearing in an airplane crash on April 21, 1919 at the age of 37.

He is a great man, known for his rigour, modesty and special attention to others, who has just left us. Jean-Marie Saget, former chief test pilot for Dassault Aviation, died on March 19, 2020 at the age of 91.

Born in Paris on March 17, 1929, he graduated from the École de l’Air in the class of 1949. After an internship in the United States (1951-1952) where he acquired a pilot’s license on P-51 Mustang aircraft, he became a fighter pilot in the French Air Force, assigned to the 2/2 Côte-d’Or fighter squadron from 1952 to 1955.

Following his victory in the Paris-Cannes race on Ouragan on August 29, 1954, he was hired by Marcel Dassault and became a test pilot, then chief pilot of the Company from 1955 to 1989.

He took part in the testing of all Dassault Aviation fighter aircraft, then of its civilian aircraft and of the Atlantique 2. He was responsible, among others, for the Étendard IV M, Mirage III V (vertical take off), Mirage F1, Mirage G8 (variable jib), Alpha Jet and Mirage 4000 programs. He carried out spin tests for the Super Mystère B-2, Étendard IV M, Mirage F1, Jaguar, Alpha Jet and Super-Étendard, as well as numerous flight demonstrations in France and abroad.

He completed his career as a technical-operational advisor to the Company from 1989 to 1992.

Parallel to his professional activities, Jean-Marie Saget had been an aerobatics instructor since 1972 with more than 4,000 hours of flight time on CAP 10. He was also president of the Cercle de Chasse of Nangis association, which flies on Vampire, as well as president of the Aéro Club Marcel Dassault Voltige.

Published by Éditions Alice Jeunesse, “La cascadeuse des nuages”, by Sandrine Beau, tells the story of Élise Deroche, the first woman to obtain her pilot’s license in France or indeed any other country in the world.

Also known under the stage name “Baroness Raymonde de Laroche”, Élise Deroche was born in 1882 and her short life (she died at the age of 36) is a veritable novel in itself. She started out as an artist and began flying after meeting Charles Voisin, who co-founded one of the first French aeronautical companies with his brother.

In her book “La cascadeuse des nuages”, author Sandrine Beau pays a fitting tribute to Deroche and skillfully illustrates each facet of this free and courageous young woman’s character—a little-known figure from the history of aviation in the early 20th century.

In a spirit of responsibility in face of the Covid-19 pandemic, and in agreement with the participating companies including Dassault Aviation, the Trans-Forme association announces the postponement of the 34th edition of the « Course du Cœur » (Heart Race) which was to take place from March 25th to 29th.

The 2020 « Course du Cœur » will therefore take place from October 14 to 18, on the route initially planned between Paris and Bourg Saint Maurice – Les Arcs.

The aim of the « Course du Cœur » is to raise public awareness of organ transplantation and the need for organ donation.

The first international conference “ICCAS 2020” scheduled for 18 and 19 March on ISAE-SUPAERO campus will not take place.

Every day more and more restrictive measures are being taken to combat COVID-19.

For the safety of all, ISAE-SUPAERO, its Foundation and Dassault Aviation have taken the decision to postpone ICCAS 2020 to 2021, the safety of the participants and the quality of the conference have prevailed.

This year, the Dassault Group is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its participation in the Course du cœur run and in raising awareness about organ donation.

The 34th race will, as usual, take participants from Paris to Bourg-Saint-Maurice – Les Arcs in four days and four nights, from Wednesday March 25th to Sunday March 29th, 2020.

Covering a distance of more than 750 km, the race organized by the association Trans-Forme raises public awareness about organ transplants and the need for organ donors.

This year, runners will be able to count on the support of Blandine L’Hirondel and Frederic Lherm.

Blandine L’Hirondel

A dynamic and lively young character, 28-year-old Blandine L’Hirondel, double world trail champion in 2019, is studying medicine to become a gynecologist and will complete her internship in May. Her journey has been an unusual one, as she only really picked up trail running in 2015, while she was studying medicine. She became world champion the very first time she was selected for the French team. Strongly committedto the organ donation cause for personal reasons, she instantly accepted Dassault’s offer to be the Group’s patron.

Frédéric Lherm

Frederic Lherm, Senior Executive Vice President of Industrial Operations, in charge of Dassault Aviation’s production sites, is known for his involvement in philanthropic activities. Testimony to his interest in the organ donation cause, he has attended all the previous Course du cœur runs, supporting and getting behind the various events. A Senior Executive patron is a strong indication of the support and encouragement which all of our company offers our team members.

The Colmar Toy museum is hosting an exhibition on the history of aviation, seen through a new lens: toys.

Primarily composed of a private collection of more than 200 toys, this exhibition takes you on a chronological journey through nearly seven decades of great aviation exploits.

From the trailblazing attempts of aviation’s pioneers in the early 20th century to the 1970s, a decade marked by the advent of air transportation, many aircraft have been revisited as toys over the years. Throughout the visit, you will come across magnificent models of iconic aircraft, such as the Vickers Viscount, a Wright Model A, an Ikarus and even the famous supersonic airliner, Concorde. Some planes even boast their own backdrop made with Playmobil or Lego.

Finally, the exhibition pays tribute to other great figures of aviation history from further back in time: you will find the Montgolfier brothers and their famous invention, the hot air balloon, for the first aerostatic flight in history, and Leonardo da Vinci presenting one of his flying machines.

Paris/ Munich, 12 February 2020 – The governments of France and Germany have awarded  Dassault Aviation, Airbus, together with their partners MTU Aero Engines, Safran, MBDA and Thales, the initial framework contract (Phase 1A), which launches the demonstrator phase for the Future Combat Air System (FCAS).

This framework contract covers a first period of 18 months and initiates work on developing the demonstrators and maturing cutting-edge technologies, with the ambition to begin flight tests as soon as 2026.

Since early 2019, the industrial partners have been working on the future architecture as part of the programme’s so called Joint Concept Study. Now, the FCAS programme enters into another decisive phase with the launch of the demonstrator phase.

Despite a foot injury that day, it took Blériot 37 minutes to travel 35 km, flying at an average speed of 57 km/h, he became the first man to cross the Channel by plane on July 25, 1909.

To promote the spirit of defense, strengthen the connection between the Armed Forces and the Nation, and foster a strategic European culture: these are the aims of the first edition of this event, which is unique in Europe. • 3D Scanner Presentation

The 3D laser scanner is a latest-generation portable metrology tool. It enables the digital acquisition of the coordinates of points in space, by analysis of the distortion of a pattern projected on a surface.

Saint-Cloud, 14 January 2020 – On 30 December 2019 the French Defense Procurement Agency (DGA) ordered the Archange airborne strategic intelligence program, comprising three Dassault Aviation Falcon 8X aircraft equipped with the Thales new-generation payload CUGE (universal electronic warfare capability). A contract has been awarded for the first two aircraft.

Dassault Aviation and the dozens of French companies associated with the Falcon programs wish to thank the Ministry of the Armed Forces, the DGA and the French Air Force for their confidence.

The required level of performance of the Archange Falcons necessitates highly complex integration work, something that is at the core of Dassault Aviation and Thales know-how.

The tri-jet Falcon 8X is the latest addition to the Falcon range. The business jet version can carry 8 passengers and 3 crew members over a distance of 6,450 nm (12,000 km). It has digital flight controls which stem directly from Dassault Aviation’s experience acquired with the Mirage 2000 and Rafale. It is equipped with an EASY digital flight deck and the totally unrivalled FalconEye combined vision system (CVS).

Exported to more than 90 countries, the Falcon aircraft are flexible and economic to fly. Their handling qualities, aerodynamics and versatility render them capable of fulfilling missions that go beyond civil aviation standards. They are designed by the design office that also develops the Rafale and nEUROn combat aircraft. Dassault Aviation has appointed Charles Wemaëre Vice President, Worldwide Spares, with responsibility for spare parts strategy and logistics efforts for the global Falcon fleet. He will report to Pierre Thielin, VP, Worldwide Customer Service, within Dassault’s Civil Aviation Department. Wemaëre previously served as Deputy Manager to Serge Elias, the former VP Worldwide Spares, who is retiring.

Dassault Aviation takes part in Qatar National Day 2019 at Doha, Qatar from December 12 to 20, 2019.

A “Rafale Experience” space will allow visitors to enjoy a virtual reality application.

On this day, in 1939, the MB 161 made its first flight at Villacoublay, with René Le Bail at the controls.

Forty aircraft were ordered by Air France in 1945 and a further five were ordered by the Polish airline LOT (Polskie Linie Lotnicze). Others were used by the French Air Force, as flying test-beds for engines and the Leduc prototypes, and by the French Navy for search and rescue duties. A total of one hundred aircraft were built and Air France used its aircraft until the middle 50s. The last Languedoc aircraft were sold by Air France in 1955, essentially to airlines Aviacion y Commercio, Iberia, Misrair and Air Liban.

Lela Presse editions invites you to discover “Le Flamant et ses dérivés”, a book of more than 550 photos retracing the history of the twin-engine piston engine that took off at the end of the 1940s.

The State, however, insisted on farming different portions of the production process to state-run and private firms. That set-up, indeed the first such arrangement in France, involved signing distinct contracts with each provider, instead of entrusting a single organization with supervising the work and selecting the subcontractors it deems fit. This awkward arrangement raised considerable coordination issues, which the French aeronautical industry nevertheless managed to overcome. Dassault’s engineering department developed highly complex tools to stitch the components emerging off the myriad production lines together. And that triggered the boom that the company and its plants in the Bordeaux area subsequently enjoyed.

The Flamant range encompassed three models:

• the glazed-nose MD 311 used for bombing and navigation training
• the MD 312 used for liaison flights and flying schools – which included a bespoke MD 312 M used by the Navy –
• MD 315, used for overseas work and air-ambulance missions.

For nearly 34 years, its school versions will train generations of transport crews. It will be the liaison aircraft for all Air Force units.

Under the auspices of the European Astronaut Club (Astronaute Club Européen – ACE), Dassault Aviation, ArianeGroup, the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Air and Space Museum, kicked off the 14 th edition of the Student Aerospace Challenge.

This competition, which concerns a manned suborbital aircraft capable of transporting six passengers to an altitude of 100 km, offers university students the chance to study one aspect of the project (structures, propulsion, legal framework, medicine, etc.).

The Challenge will end in June 2020 with the “Suborbital Day”, a chance for students to present their work, with the best projects receiving awards.

This year, 23 teams (102 students) registered; they come from eight European countries that are members of ESA. Seven teams are representing French schools or universities. The Europeanization of the Challenge is well established for the third year running.

On the weekend of December 14-15, 2019, the Air and Space Museum invites you to the opening of the Grande Galerie, its new, fully renovated exhibition space located within the historic air terminal in Le Bourget.

To mark the occasion, the museum, which celebrated its centennial this year, has concocted a comprehensive program for visitors of all ages: conferences, guided tours, Kapla workshops, treasure hunts, and many other activities are planned over the course of the weekend.

On August 31, 2019, the 30^th winner of the World Aerobatic Championships was declared in Châteauroux. On board the Extra 330 SC, Aude Lemordant breathed new life into the discipline, by moving France into first place in the overall rankings. With three world titles to her name, she became the most successful French woman in the history of this sport.

This championship left many spectators with bated breath. With 7 titles to her name, the legendary Russian aerobatics pilot, Svetlana Kapanina, appeared to be the favorite. However, an error in the first figure during the final round earned her a score of zero, opening the door for Aude Lemordant who took advantage of this opportunity to make a strategic move:

“I am very pleased to hold on to the title of World Champion for the next two years, and to share the podium with Louis Vanel, who is an excellent pilot and a truly outstanding person. Every competition is different, and each time you take the chance of winning or losing. We’re really competing against ourselves. This year, there were some spectacular face-offs, it was difficult for the women and the competition was very tight for the men. The coach, Patrick Paris, has considerable experience and was able to encourage every pilot throughout the championship to overcome the various obstacles.”

(Saint-Cloud, 27 November 2019) – Today Dassault Aviation inaugurated its new pyrotechnic facilities at its Martignas-sur-Jalle site. The inauguration ceremony was led by Eric Trappier, Chairman and CEO of Dassault Aviation, along with site director Pascal Nibaudeau, and was attended by the general secretary of the prefecture of Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Gironde, Thierry Suquet; the president of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, Alain Rousset; the vice president of the Bordeaux Métropole metropolitan area, Alain Anziani; and the mayor of Martignas, Michel Vernejoul. Also present were representatives from official bodies, the aeronautical ecosystem in southwest France and the media.

The pyrotechnic activities of Dassault Aviation were previously based in Argenteuil and Poitiers. All of these activities have now been relocated to the new facilities in Martignas:

• A 2,500m², tripod-shaped building in which each wing is dedicated to a specific function: production of long products (cutting cords, expansible tubes and transmission lines) in the first; manufacture of pyromechanisms and initiators in the second; and design study activities and test laboratories in the third.
• A bunker for safe storage of explosive components.

The MMT project officially kicked-off on March 16, 2018 in the presence of Florence Parly, the French Minister of the Armed Forces, and Joël Barre, head of the French Defense Procurement Agency (DGA), with project management by Dassault Aviation and Thales. Nineteen projects had already been launched. Notified at the end of 2018, these projects are already beginning to show promising prospects.

MMT expects that a quarter of these studies will be entrusted to laboratories, innovative SMEs and mid-tier companies, and start-ups specializing in AI, robotics and new MMIs. The objective is to create an industrial ecosystem conducive to detecting innovations, assessing them, seeing them mature and, in the long run, have them used in the development of future fighter aircraft, starting from the Rafale update by 2030 in particular, followed by the Future Combat Air System (FCAS).

For its 4th issue in its “French fighter planes” series, Air&Cosmos has published a special issue devoted to the fighter-bomber, Super-Mystère B2.

The Super-Mystère B2 (SMB2) is “the culmination of the Mystère planes from which it draws its design inspiration”, according to the authors of this special issue. It was a development of the Super Mystère B1 but equipped with the Snecma Atar 101 G turbojet preferred by the French Air Force.

In this special issue, Air&Cosmos shines the spotlight on the life of this “ambitious, high-performance fighter jet”, the first supersonic aircraft with an afterburner in Europe.

This comprehensive and richly illustrated special issue features a study of the prototypes, a story dedicated to the pilot Gérard Muselli who was at the controls of the aircraft for its maiden flight in 1956, a detailed description of the ATAR 100G turbojet and numerous technical drawings. Each user can test their control of the aircraft by going through the center of the virtual targets on each of the five increasingly difficult routes, and take part in a “buddy-buddy” in-flight refueling mission.

(Saint-Cloud, October 29, 2019) – This summer, Lann-Bihoué French naval air station received the first two ATL2 maritime patrol aircraft upgraded by Dassault Aviation.

Last week, Florence Parly, Minister of the Armed Forces, flew on one of these aircraft.

These two events demonstrate the progress made on the upgrade program which is designed to modernize the ATL2 combat system to standard 6.

The contract for the upgraded (standard 6) ATL2 combat system was awarded by the defense procurement agency DGA on October 4, 2013. The program covers a fleet of 18 aircraft. Dassault Aviation will deliver a further five upgraded ATL2s in the period 2020-2023. In parallel, the SIAé aeronautical maintenance center will upgrade 11 aircraft.

Dassault Aviation is participating in the Sustainable Aviation Jet Fuel (SAJF) initiative being held at this year’s National Business Aviation Association Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE), to promote the use of alternative fuels and help reduce the industry’s carbon footprint.

The demonstration, staged by the NBAA and the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA), will be a highlight of the show, which opens on 22 October at the Las Vegas Convention Center and Henderson Executive Airport.

The three Falcons on display—an ultra-long range Falcon 8X, a Falcon 900LX and a Falcon 2000S– all flew to Las Vegas with a blend of SAJF and conventional Jet-A1 fuel.

Falcon aircraft—which are all biofuel compatible–also took part in a SAJF demonstration at the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition in May, as well as in recent transatlantic SAJF demo flights.

Dassault Aviation takes part in the NBAA (National Business Aviation Association) at Las Vegas from October 22 to 24, 2019.

On October 2, 1959, the Mirage III B made its first flight at Melun-Villaroche, with René Bigand at the controls.

Designed and built within the framework of the light interceptor program defined by the French Air Force after the Korea war (1950-1953), the Mirage III was a bomber fighter aircraft with a delta wing and a fuselage designed according to the area rule which gave it a distinctive waisted profile. Derived from the first Mirage formula with a Delta wing, the Mirage III is designed at the end 1955.

Ordered on February 25, 1958, the Mirage III B was the dual-control two-seater version of the Mirage III A. The prototype first flew at Melun-Villaroche on October 20, 1959, piloted by René Bigand. Compared to the basic Mirage III, its fuselage was elongated to house the second crew member in what had been the radio equipment bay. The equipment was relocated in the nose cone, which therefore no longer contained radar.

The third and last volume in this adventure, set towards the end of WW1, will have readers on the edge of their seats as they become immersed in a tale of camaraderie, love triangles and mighty courage.

In volume 2, the aircraft of the mysterious Alexandre Marais, French flying ace disfigured during combat, was gunned down by a German alter ego answering to the name of Nikolaus Stipetic. Before his plane was taken down, Marais had witnessed the arrival within his squadron of the young Louis Laffite, whose recklessness in combat had led to him being somewhat pushed aside.

In this new “Faucheurs de vent” volume, Louis Lafitte refuses to become squadron leader as, governed by the code of honor, he does not know whether Alexandre Marais is dead or alive. In truth, Marais is still alive and being held a prisoner of the German army. Marais’ beautiful mistress, Gabrielle, at first completely devastated by his disappearance, gradually begins to fall for the intrepid… Lafitte! The story’s ending hangs in the mist!

Munich/Saint-Cloud, 7 October 2019 – Two years ago, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel agreed to jointly develop the European Future Combat Air System (FCAS). This initiative, of major importance for European Defence, now should quickly move forward by launching the programme’s demonstrator phase.

Launching this FCAS demonstrator phase means commencing the first development phase of this 21^st century European defence project. In the current geopolitical context, it ensures that Europe can maintain its industrial and operational sovereignty and deal with the threats of tomorrow.

If Europe does not move forward — and move forward quickly — on this programme, it will be impossible to maintain the development and production capabilities needed for a sovereign defence industry. FCAS is a highly complex and ambitious undertaking, from a technological, strategic and political viewpoint. It will affect the totality of our air assets and their ability to operate together under optimum conditions. What is at stake is nothing less than our capability to ensure our defence and our autonomy in the air in the second half of the 21^st century.

The goal is for FCAS to enter operational service in 2040 at the latest. This deadline might seem a long way in the future, but planning needs to start well in advance.

It is true that the first major steps have already been taken successfully. The partner nations have jointly expressed their requirements for such a system. A Franco-German industrial organisation has been defined under the respective national leadership of DASSAULT AVIATION and AIRBUS. A Franco-German Joint Concept Study (JCS) was launched in January 2019 to define the main features of the system. Airbus and Dassault Aviation wish to underline how quickly both companies had jointly concluded agreements and prepared themselves to move forward. Spain has officially joined the programme as the third partner nation.

However, future technologies need to be developed now for subsequent flight testing and qualification. This maturation phase is essential to de-risk and anticipate developments of such complexity. That is why government and industry agreed to launch a demonstrator development phase as early as possible, for which French and German industry, coordinated by DASSAULT AVIATION and AIRBUS, submitted proposals during the Paris Air Show in June 2019.

What is important now is to achieve concrete progress on FCAS. The upcoming Franco-German ministerial council meeting should serve as a catalyst for this joint desire to move forward by rapidly launching this demonstrator phase and committing the partner nations to a reliable funding plan to confirm the sustainable and coherent nature of this European development programme.

DASSAULT AVIATION and AIRBUS are ready to take up the challenge and are now eager to launch the necessary work to ensure the viability of this programme in the long term.

It is now up to our political leaders to have the courage to build on this momentum and take the decisions that are needed to open the next chapter. Let’s not lose any more time. Industry is ready, motivated and united to make this programme a success. Our teams are mobilized to take up the challenge together!

After the two previous editions in 2014 and 2017, the Armor Aero Passion team is organizing the 2019 Morlaix air show on September 28 and 29, a key event for all aviation enthusiasts.

For two days, a variety of aircraft will take to the skies over Brittany. The event will feature many naval aircraft, due to the proximity of the Landivisiau Naval Air Base, partner of the event.

In addition to the Rafale Marine, this edition of the “Des Rafale et des Ailes” air show will feature the ATL 2, NH90 Caïman, Cap 10 Marine, Falcon 10, Falcon 50 and many others will offer breathtaking aerial demonstrations.

Other legendary aircraft are also due to make an appearance, including a Fouga CM-175 Zephyr and a Morane-Saulnier MS.760 Paris.

As part of the 36^th edition of the European Heritage Days, the Cognac-Châteaubernard air base will be giving a guided tour of its Aeronautics Museum on September 21 and 22. Here is a preview of the tour.

This is an exceptional opening and spaces are limited! As part of the 36^th edition of the European Heritage Days, the Aeronautical Museum at the 709 Cognac-Châteaubernard “Commandant Ménard” air base is opening its doors to the public. Comprising four rooms, of which three house airplanes (North American T6, CM170 Fouga-Magister and TB30 Epsilon), the museum will also be hosting three special displays for the event: a model maker will be showcasing the different airplanes of aerobatic display teams from around the world, a collector will be showcasing exhibits that belonged to the base in 1939-1944, and there will be an exhibition presenting vintage military vehicles.

More military vehicles dating from World War II will also be part of an outdoor exhibit. From September 13 to 28, 2019, the Folies Bergère Theater is staging a dreamlike adaptation of “Le Petit Prince” in which dance, new circus and video projections unite for a remarkable show.

Since its publication in 1943, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s universally acclaimed poetic and philosophical novella Le Petit Prince has continued to inspire the creative art world and has been the subject of many film, cartoon, opera, musical comedy and instrumental music adaptations.

The artist Valentin Kolev, director of Sokol Entertainment, also pays tribute to the most famous work of the aviator and novelist, by staging a show that combines contemporary dance, aerial acrobatics and multimedia.

Dassault Aviation takes part in the Russian Business Aviation Exhibition (RUBAE), from September 11 to 13, 2019 at the Vnukovo-3 Business Aviation Center, in Moscow.

DFJ Head Jean Rosanvallon to Step-Down after 44-year career with Dassault

Saint-Cloud, France, September 1, 2019 – The Dassault Falcon Jet (DFJ) Board of Directors has appointed Thierry Betbeze, CEO of the wholly owned Dassault Aviation subsidiary, which is responsible for Falcon business aircraft marketing, sales and support in the Americas.

He had been serving as Senior Vice President of Finance at DFJ since 2016.

Betbeze replaces Jean Rosanvallon, who is stepping-down after leading DFJ for 23 years. Rosanvallon, a 44-year Dassault veteran, will serve as Special Senior Advisor to Dassault Aviation Chairman & CEO Eric Trappier during a transition period.

“Thierry’s appointment is the latest in a number of recent changes intended to reinforce our worldwide sales, marketing and customer support effort,” said Trappier. “His extensive experience in international finance, along with the recent appointments of Carlos Brana, Executive Vice President Civil Aircraft and head of Worldwide Falcon sales and marketing, and Jean Kayanakis, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Falcon Customer Service & Service Center Network, will ensure the enduring success of the Falcon brand in today’s demanding business aviation environment.”

Betbeze began his career at Dassault Aviation in 1984 as a cost accountant and switched to export financing with a wide range of responsibilities including treasury and currency hedging, before being promoted to Senior Vice President Finance in 2004.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Finance from France’s Ecole Supérieur de Commerce et de Management (ESCEM).

Rosanvallon joined Dassault Aviation in 1975 and four years later moved over to DFJ, based in Teterboro, New Jersey, as Assistant to the President. After an 11-year interlude in France serving in several executive capacities within Dassault Aviation, he returned to Teterboro as Senior VP Sales and Marketing with responsibility for consolidating worldwide Falcon commercial activities. He took charge of the affiliate in 1996.

Voted Number One in AIN and ProPilot Surveys

 August 8, 2019 (Saint-Cloud, France): Dassault Aviation recently took the top position in two of the business aviation industry’s leading gauges of customer satisfaction, the Aviation International News (AIN) and ProPilot product support surveys.

The top ranking, after several straight second and third place finishes, follows a multi-year effort to establish a level of customer service second to none in the business jet sector. Dassault was voted #1 overall in the AIN survey and led the field in Parts Availability, Parts Cost, AOG Response, and Overall Aircraft Reliability. In the ProPilot survey, Dassault took the #1 spot overall, as well as placing first in Spares Availability and Service Satisfaction.
