A constant focus on a sustainable environment

Not just specialized teams, but all of our employees contribute to the implementation of our environmental policy in all of our facilities and departments. This involvement encompasses our partners, and we support these companies in their own continuous improvement programs.

Streamlined, high-performance production processes

The criteria shaping our technology and production decisions include resource consumption, the use of chemical substances, atmospheric and aqueous releases, and the generation of waste.

For example, by modernizing our machinery and equipment, upgrading our production methods and applying replacement plans, we have reduced the use of the most potentially hazardous chemical substances – in fact, some 330 substances have been replaced since 2013.

A steady reduction of our environmental footprint

The efforts made by all of our facilities, in line with the Company’s general policy, have helped reduce our environmental footprint.

We have been able to reduce our electricity consumption by nearly one-fifth and our gas consumption by one-third, for a 30% decrease in CO2 emissions over the last ten years (excluding jet fuel). These results are due to the general application of centralized facilities management, the introduction of less energy-hungry systems, thermal insulation of buildings and the modernization of heating systems.

Over and above the greenhouse gases generated for energy, the gases generated by our operations are being analyzed and various measures are already being applied to reduce these emissions. For example, we have set up new distribution hubs to limit the need for transportation.

We have reduced our water consumption by nearly 50% over the last ten years, thanks to refurbished water networks and the elimination of open-circuit industrial processes.

During this same period we have decreased emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC) by 57%, in part by implementing processes that require fewer solvents.

Waste management is a prime target for continuous improvement measures:

– Our efforts to reduce waste at the source has resulted in a drop of nearly 40% (by weight) in ten years.
– The waste reuse rate shows steady improvement: in 2017, this rate stood at nearly 90% for non-hazardous waste, and nearly 50% for hazardous waste.
