For this summer’s issue, “Le Fana de l’Aviation” (issue 668) looks back at the history of the Dewoitine D.520 fighter (on the cover). It entered service in May 1940, but was produced in quantities too small to avoid defeat at the hands of the Messerschmitt – despite its good maneuverability. Based on the notebooks of the famous pre-war test pilot Marcel Doret, the editorial team details its design and development. Also, under the pen of historian Claude Carlier (author of “Marcel Dassault: la légende d’un siècle”), the monthly features a long article on the 1975 Paris Air Show, marked by the clash between the Dassault Mirage F1E and the General Dynamics F-16.
Also in this issue: a focus on the Douglas R4D-6 “Ready 4 Duty” (built in 1944), visiting Europe for the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany; a report on the Le Temps des Hélices 2025 airshow; an interview with Air and Space painter Lucio Perinotto by editor-in-chief Alexis Rocher; or an anecdote from the Bastille Day celebrations of 1937, when a Dewoitine 500 was forced to dive into the Seine to avoid tragedy… In short, an issue with a vintage flavour that you have the whole month of July to enjoy!
