On France’s national holiday, 4,298 men and women on foot, 196 vehicles and 270 cavalrymen will parade down the Champs-Élysées on July 14, 2019 starting at 10:30 am. They will be accompanied in the air by 67 aircraft and 40 helicopters.
Officially launched in June 2018 in order to encourage the emergence of a European strategic culture and increase the capacity of Europeans to act together, the European Intervention Initiative (EII) will take pride of place during this 2019 parade. Representatives from the 10 countries which make up the EII (Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Estonia, Finland, the Netherlands, Portugal and the United Kingdom) are expected to open the parade, preceding other representatives from European cooperative bodies, such as units from the Franco-German Brigade and Eurocorps.
A highlight of this military parade will be the flyover of 67 aircraft over the Champs-Élysées, including 9 Alpha Jets from the Patrouille de France at the start, followed by Rafale C, Rafale B, Rafale M, Mirage 2000-5, Mirage 2000 C, Mirage 2000 D, Alpha Jet, ATL 2, Falcon 2000 and Falcon 50 M aircraft.
