In this autobiographical work, CSINI President Fabrizzio Casagrande shares with readers his journey—one fraught with obstacles but also marked by recognition—in the face of illness.

Courage, perseverance, self-sacrifice, resilience… These are values shared by many sailors, but they are particularly associated with Fabrizzio Casagrande, president of the Cercle Sportif de l’Institution Nationale des Invalides (CSINI) and former president of Solid’Air, a national network for mutual aid, information, and communication serving military personnel and civilians of the Air and Space Force. For the career of this officer of the National Order of Merit is sure to inspire many and spark numerous vocations.

After enlisting very early on (while still a minor) in the Air and Space Force, he began learning to fly gliders as soon as he came of age, before earning his fighter pilot’s license in 1991, graduating at the top of his class in the process. Now a reconnaissance pilot at the controls of a Dassault Mirage F1, the young man seemed to have a bright career ahead of him…

But a few years later, he received devastating news: he was declared unfit for duty and could not continue his career as a fighter pilot. The Air and Space Force then offered him the opportunity to become a navigator, which he accepted. This marked the beginning of a daily struggle, chronicled in this autobiography, in which he recounts his life both before and after the diagnosis. A book in which humility and courage go hand in hand on every page, culminating in an exceptional “comeback” and a successful career.
