Three comic books in one! “Saint-Exupéry, The Complete Collection 1900-1944” should be a real hit among young and old alike. The collection retraces the entire life of the renowned aviator, in particular through his time with the Aéropostale service.

A genuine triumph in terms of artwork and storytelling, this collection comprises three albums all about the author of “The Little Prince”. The first book, entitled “Le Seigneur des Sables” [The Lord of the Sands], is set in the fall of 1926, when the young Saint-Exupéry gets hired by the Latécoère company (later Aéropostale). The aviator was soon sent to Cape Juby, in the Sahara, a place where he would quickly find inspiration for his first novel, “Courrier Sud” [Southern Mail].

In “Le Royaume des Sables” [The Kingdom of the Sands], the writer arrives in New York while France is under occupation. While in the “Big Apple”, and waiting to be able to serve as a pilot to help his country free itself from the yoke of Nazi Germany, he devotes himself fully to writing. It is at this time that the story of a child who “emerges” from the sands takes shape in his mind.

Finally, for “Le Compagnon du Vent” [The Companion of the Wind], the third and last book in this collection, the reader is taken back in time to follow the adventures of Saint-Exupéry in Argentina, in October 1929. His mission was to extend the Aéropostale route to Patagonia, and he was inspired by the places and conditions of his journeys (flying at night and in strong winds) to work on writing “Vol de Nuit” [Night Flight]. All this was happening as the economic crisis of 1929 was about to hit the world, severely affecting Aéropostale in its wake.

In short, this collection provides the perfect opportunity for those who continue to be fascinated and inspired by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, as well as for younger readers and for anyone who is a fan of the comic book genre!
