Through September 6, 2026, the Espace Air Passion Museum in Marcé, near Angers (49), is hosting an exhibition by artist Joël Rougié, who skillfully explores aeronautical themes.

By his own admission, artist Joël Rougié is a newcomer to aviation: “In a way, I’m discovering an amazing world, filled with enthusiasts of all ages and volunteers. ” It was while searching for a venue to showcase his work in his hometown of Angers that this graduate of the Beaux-Arts—who has exhibited in Tokyo, New York, and other global art hubs over the past forty-five years—came up with the idea of venturing into aeronautics. And success seems to be on the horizon!

Of the forty paintings on display, about ten focus on aviation and are well worth seeing. Imagine a painting depicting the evolution of (flying) species, ranging from Leonardo da Vinci to an American B-52; works featuring legendary aircraft (a Waco ZPF, a Caudron C275, etc.), a painting of an engine with striking contrasts, a large-format piece showing a Short Empire flying over New York, and another in the form of a puzzle that highlights the great names in aviation: Rolland Garros, Maryse Bastié, Hélène Boucher… Visitors to the Espace Air Passion Museum (one of the largest in France) can admire all these paintings—in addition to his traditional works, which often depict cities from the air—through early September.

Exhibition: “De l’Air, de l’Art.” Artist: Joël Rougié. Espace Air Passion Museum, Angers Loire Airport, 49140 Marcé. Through September 6, 2026.
