The Air and Space Museum has just successfully restored two aerobatics aircraft from the inter-war period belonging to the State’s collections.
During these two recent projects carried out in the Air and Space Museum workshops, the temporary exhibition, Restaurer les avions de musée (Restoring museum aircraft) sheds light on the restoration of aircraft belonging to public collections. This approach highlights the concerns and work ethics required by a Musée de France.
Without detracting from the specifics of this heritage, this exhibition highlights the fact that beyond the differences that may exist between dissimilar objects, the aircraft restoration method, with its restrictions and compromises, is basically not all that different than restoring a work of art.
The exhibition text is enriched with various pieces from museum collections, but also extensive photographic documentation, didactic slides and an educational booklet specifically designed for young visitors and those accompanying them.
