It is cold at dawn on January 29, 1926, when Saint-Exupéry takes off from Toulouse bound for Dakar (Senegal), flying first over Spain. The first part of this journey invites contemplation—if not prose—as he flies over the Iberian Peninsula and the northern part of the African continent. But soon, night falls… And with it come storms that result in a crash right in the middle of the desert! It is under these conditions that the young aviator, then known as Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, will have to fight against the lurking threat of death, the crushing, softening sun, and the madness that lies in wait, ready to strike at any moment…

Winner of the Grand Prix de l’Académie française, a timeless, disjointed, humanistic work that constantly calls us to travel… Almost everything has been said about *Terre des hommes*, starting with the moral lessons and values of courage conveyed by its text. Here (though this is by no means the first time!) is one of Saint-Exupéry’s major works, running through the end of June 2026 at the Théâtre Le Contrescarpe. The production is directed by Thierry Harcourt, featuring the promising Pierre Devaux in a memorable one-man show exploring the theme of survival. Not to be missed!

Play. “Terre des hommes” Directed by Thierry Harcourt. Starring Pierre Devaux. Through June 20, 2026. Every Saturday at 7 p.m. Théâtre le Contrescarpe, 5 rue Blainville, 75005 Paris.
