The boom in balloons and other aircraft in various areas of the department—a rather unknown aspect of the Hauts-de-Seine’s history—is not be overlooked. Three towns in the department that played host to this tremendous adventure are also highlighted in this open air exhibition.

Firstly, Saint-Cloud, at the location of the current Coteaux-Gradin municipal stadium, followed by Issy-les-Moulineaux, at the site of the current Parisian heliport and finally, the Meudon Chalais research development center. Three towns that were highly documented, in particular between 1884 and 1914, with many photographs to be discovered in this exhibition.

To enrich this event; the organizers unearthed photographs from the Boulogne archives, postcards from the departmental archives, maps of hangars from the period from The French Playing Card Museum in Issy-les-Moulineaux and the Neuilly archives, as well as photos from The National Air and Space Museum of France.

All of this is on display to visitors within the magnificent île Saint-Germain park, located on the Seine. Simply put, it’s a captivating exhibition on the doorstep of the capital and should not be missed under any circumstances!
