Exhibition: “Saint Exupéry and his military commitment”

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the publication of the famous book "Pilote de Guerre", the national association "Le Souvenir Français" has invited the Antoine de Saint Exupéry Foundation for Youth to present a unique exhibition which will take place from December 8th 2022 to January 3rd 2023.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the publication of the famous book “Pilote de Guerre”, the national association “Le Souvenir Français” has invited the Antoine de Saint Exupéry Foundation for Youth to present a unique exhibition which will take place from December 8th 2022 to January 3rd 2023.

This exhibition dedicated to the military commitment of Commander Antoine de Saint Exupéry presents archival and aerial reconnaissance photographs, exclusive documents and personal objects that belonged to the writer-aviator. Sculptures by various artists are also on display (the sculptor Jean-Marc de Pas, the artist Arnaud Nazare-Aga and the illustrator Cédric Fernandez) as well as drawings by the artist Bernard Lamotte. You will also find rare books (including the 2 clandestine editions of Pilote de Guerre published by the French Resistance in Lyon and Lille), historical military documents and aircraft models.

About “Pilote de Guerre”

Intended to celebrate the heroism of French aviation in the war, the book “Pilote de Guerre” was published in New York on February 20, 1942, simultaneously in English under the title “Flight to Arras” by Reynal & Hitchcock and in French under the title “Pilote de Guerre” by La Maison française, with illustrations by Bernard Lamotte ; then in France by Gallimard, on November 27, 1942, initially censored by the German occupation authorities, but banned on February 11, 1943, and distributed clandestinely by the resistance movements in Lille and Lyon.
